Featuring conversations with four local best-selling authors:
Julia Bricklin has published five books of history. Her most recent book, Red Sapphire: The Woman Who Beat The Blacklist, tells the true story of a woman who, at the height of McCarthy’s communist witch hunts, built a media empire that financially and morally supported scores of blacklisted writers.
Others include the award-winning, true crime ‘Blonde Rattlesnake’: Burmah Adams, Tom White, And The 1933 Crime Spree That Terrorized Los Angeles, which was nominated for an Agatha Award in 2020, and The Notorious Life Of Ned Buntline: A Tale Of Murder, Betrayal, And The Creation Of Buffalo Bill. She often writes for academic journals and magazines, as well as various history and true crime podcasts.
Bricklin grew up on the Peninsula and attended Rolling Hills High School. She graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Kim Davis writes the Aromatherapy Apothecary cozy mystery series, and the award-winning Cupcake Catering cozy mystery series. For over ten years she’s written the Cinnamon, Sugar, and a Little Bit of Murder culinary cozy mystery blog, and has recently joined the permanent group of bloggers at Mystery Lovers’ Kitchen. She lives in Southern California with her husband and rambunctious mini Goldendoodle, Missy, who has become an inspiration for several plotlines. Kim Davis is a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
Nadine Nettmann is a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and award-nominated author of the Sommelier Mystery series and The Bootlegger’s Daughter. A Los Angeles native, she works in the wine industry and enjoys discovering the history of the city she still calls home. She combines her passion for writing, wine, and history into her novels, which have been nominated for the Anthony Award, the Agatha Award, the Macavity Award, the Lefty Award, and the Mary Higgins Clark Award.
Lara Shea is the author of MOM'S NIGHT OUT, a self-published novel deemed the "best entertainment since the breast pump." She has a BA in Biochemistry, which is helpful with homework and Jeopardy, and a MA in Journalism, both from the University of Colorado. She has taken multiple novel writing courses through UCLA Extension as well as other online writing classes from prominent authors and agents. She lives in Los Angeles with her two teenage sons, a husband who speaks in movie lines, and a goldendoodle named Indy. When not writing, she can be found surfing the cove with her coven of girlfriends or volunteering at the dog shelter and trying not to adopt them all.
Moderator Rebecca Forster started writing on a crazy dare and found her passion. Now a USA Today and Amazon bestselling author with over 40 books to her name. Laurie Levenson, CBS Legal Correspondent calls Forster’s legal and police thrillers “perfect…impossible to put down.”.
The Witness Series, set in Hermosa Beach, is published worldwide and has over three million readers. Rebecca’s Finn O’Brien series takes inspiration from the micro-communities in Los Angeles. Her fast-paced tales are known for deep characterization and never-see-it-coming endings.
Rebecca has taught at the acclaimed UCLA Writers Program. She is a sought-after speaker, keynoting at judges and bar associations, business and philanthropic groups. She has also been a repeat presenter at the LA Times Festival of Books.
Forster does extensive research to bring authenticity to her work. She is a graduate of both DEA and ATF citizen’s academies, Palos Verdes PD gun safety course, and landed by tailhook on the USS Nimitz where she was a guest on the aircraft carrier during the Leaders to Sea Program. World travel informs her work from Albania to China and all points in between.
Rebecca is the mother to two grown sons and is married to a Los Angeles Superior Court judge. She has been a Palos Verdes resident since 1995.
